Heating while saving
An investment that pays for itself
Investing in a heating fireplace or a high-efficiency heating stove is a choice that pays for itself in just a few years: wood heating allows saving up to 60% compared to the cost of gas; and heating with pellets up to 40%. In addition, thanks to the high thermal efficiencies it can benefit from the tax deduction of 36% or 55% for home energy improvement. With the savings on the cost of the fuel and the benefit of the tax deduction, your system pays for itself immediately.

Energy and cost comparison between alternative fuels and traditional fossil fuels.
The first table gives the hourly cost of heating using different fuels (average fuel cost values for the Italian market were considered); the second table gives the difference, in absolute and percentage value, of the cost necessary to heat an apartment of approx. 150 m2, taking a natural gas-fired boiler as a reference. For heating with wood, beech with an average moisture content of 20/30% was considered. In appraising the efficiency it is necessary to consider that each type of wood has a different heat value and that the moisture content considerably affects efficiency.

Tab.1 - Survey over hourly heating costs per typology of used combustible (the average values referred to the italian market have been considerated) ; this serves as a comparison with the cost of methane gas and gives the amount of money the user should save actually.
Fuel *Cost Net heat Value Boiler Effic. Heat Value Delivered Cost 18 KW
LPG 0.70 € /lit 7.33 kWh/lit 93% 6.82 kWh/lit 1.85 €
OIL 1.28 € /lit 11.16 kWh/lit 90% 10.04 kWh/lit 2.29 €
NATURAL GAS 0.72 € /m3 9.88kWh/lit 93% 9.19 kWh/lit 1.41 €

Tab.2 - Survey over the difference – expressed in absolute value and percentage – between the heating costs of a flat of approx. 150 m2 feeded 8 hours a day by means of a methane boiler requiring on average 18 kW in winter season over a period of 180 days (6 months).
Fuel Days/Year Hours/Day Hour Cost Total Cost Difference
LPG 180 8 1.85 € 2.661,62 € 31%
OIL 180 8 2.29 € 3.303,23 € 63%
NATURAL GAS 180 8 1.41 € 2.031,08 € riferimento
WOOD (2) 180 8 0.60 € 866,39 € -57%
PELLETS (3) 180 8 0.85 € 1.229,12 € -39%
(1) Average fuel cost values based on the Italian market. (2) and (3) were obtained using for Foghet water heating fireplaces and a heating plant.

Example of investment return with 36% Tax Deduction – 4 years amortisation (Example based on the Italian Market)
tax deduction of 36%
Example of investment return for a € 7.100,00 Fireplace, considering the 36% Tax Deduction and the yearly savings given by the use of wood instead of gas boilers. (Example based on the Italian Market).
On the Italian Market Tax Deduction is granted for the purchase and installing of a Jolly Mec fireplace and stove fuelled by wood and pellet with efficency not below 70%. (According to Italian Law)

Example of investment return with 55% Tax Deduction – 3,5 years amortisation (Example based on the Italian Market)
tax deduction of 55%
Example of investment return for a € 7.100,00 Fireplace, considering the 55% Tax Deduction and the yearly savings given by the use of wood instead of gas boilers. (Example based on the Italian Market) (According to Italian Law)
